When you thought I wasn't looking at you…

child, parent, relationship, Parent Magazine

A text that every adult should read, because children watch and do what you do, not what you say.

When he thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw him hang my first painting on the fridge and immediately asked to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw you feed a lost kitten and learned that you are good with animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the most special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I heard you say a prayer and I knew there was a God somewhere I could always talk to and I learned to believe in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw you prepare food and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all need to help by taking care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw how you gave of your time and money to help people who had nothing, and I learned that those who have something should give to those who have nothing.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw how you took care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned that we should take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw how you handled your responsibilities even when you weren't feeling well, and I learned that I have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw the tears in your eyes and learned that sometimes you get hurt and it's okay to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I saw you worry and I wanted to be all that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I learned the most life lessons I need to know to be a good and creative person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking at you, I looked at you and wanted to say “Thank you!” for all those things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.

I am sending this to all those people who I know do so much for others, thinking no one sees them.
