They raise the income threshold for granting child benefits

child benefits

As of July 1, 2016, the limit for access to family benefits for children is increased to BGN 400 monthly income per family member. Until now, the amount was 350 BGN.

The expansion of access is related to the most massive support - the monthly benefits for raising a child until the completion of secondary education, but not more than 20 years of age, the information states. Thus, as of May 31, on average, 451 families for 977 children benefited from the aid.

The new threshold is also valid when determining the right to receive a one-time pregnancy allowance, the targeted allowance for first-graders and the monthly allowance for raising a child up to the age of one. As of the end of May, 16 benefits were granted on average per month for raising a child up to one year old, and 772 – as one-off benefits during pregnancy.

The income criterion does not apply to families with children with permanent disabilities, with one living parent and children placed in foster families and in the families of relatives or relatives, the agency specifies. Applications are submitted to the "Social Assistance" Directorate at a permanent address, except in the case of cohabiting parents without a civil marriage, who cohabit at the same current address.

Since the beginning of 2016, there has been a change in the amount of child benefits. The monthly allowance for a family with one child was increased from BGN 35 to BGN 37. The state gives BGN 85 to a family with two children, and BGN 130 to a family with three. Families with four children receive BGN 140, and for each additional child in the family allowance increases by BGN 20.
